MARC Dementia Research #InOurLifeTime Event

On 22nd August 2023, the Memory Assessment and Research Centre (MARC), part of the Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust hosted its annual Dementia Research Update Event with the theme #InOurLifeTime. The event held at the Ageas Bowl Stadium brought together over 100 attendees with clinicians, front line staff from voluntary and community sector organisations and more importantly the Friends of MARC Reference Group (this Reference Group voluntary provide their valuable lived experience and knowledge to help shape dementia research and the service that MARC provides). 


This highly successful and exciting event served as a platform to share latest developments and experiences in the field of dementia research and generated some really thought provoking and interesting discussions. The event was opened by Chief Executive, Ron Shields followed by the Director of Nursing, Paula Hull and featured speakers renowned for their contributions in the field such as Professor Clive Holmes, Dr Brady McFarlane and Dr Jay Amin. In addition to showcasing cutting edge research, the event provided a valuable opportunity for networking and fostered collaboration.  


Overall, the event showcased showed promising breakthroughs, emphasised the significance of collaboration, and ignited hope among attendees. By working together, sharing knowledge, and pushing the boundaries of dementia research, we are inching closer to a future with improved prevention. The insights gained from this event will undoubtedly contribute to the development of improved care practices, effective interventions and ultimately, a better quality of life for people living with dementia.
